One million trees for Calca
We conserve and restore high-Andean forests alongside Andean communities to protect water, biodiversity, and the future of the land.
Reforesta Calca works on the conservation and restoration of mountain ecosystems in the province of Calca, Cusco, Peru, through the planting of native species and community-led efforts to recover and conserve degraded landscapes.
Our vision
The Problem
Mountain ecosystems under threat
The high-Andean forests that regulate the water supply of the Sacred Valley have been degraded by wildfires, the loss of native vegetation, and soil erosion.
This degradation affects biodiversity, landscape stability, and the water security of communities in Calca.
Main threats
- Loss of native forests
- Recurring wildfires
- Mountain soil erosion
- Ecosystem fragmentation
Our Response
Ecological restoration with communities
Reforesta Calca drives long-term restoration processes using native species from the Andes of Calca. This work is carried out alongside local communities, volunteers, the local council, NGOs, and partners committed to the stewardship of the land.
Three Pillars
The project rests on three pillars that are in constant interaction.

Restoration
Recovery of ecosystems with native species such as molle, qolle, and chachacomo.

Conservation
Protection of existing forests and wildfire prevention.

Communities
Active participation of the territory's people in restoration and conservation processes.
Lines of action
- Planting of native species
- Community work
- Soil recovery
- Wildfire prevention
- Monitoring and maintenance
